Sarajevo Fest 2026

Sarajevo’s cultural season continues after the busy August festival period with the 8th Sarajevo Fest, taking place from 31 August to 6 September 2026.

This international theatre festival brings contemporary performances, music and cultural discussions to several Sarajevo venues. The theme for 2026 is “Life”, with artists and productions arriving from across Europe. For tourists visiting Sarajevo in late summer, the festival is an opportunity to combine the city’s historic attractions with international theatre and live performance.

Programmes and performance times can change, so check the final schedule before attending. Getting to the National Theatre Sarajevo Many Sarajevo Fest performances take place at the National Theatre Sarajevo, located at Obala Kulina bana 9 beside the Miljacka River. The theatre is within walking distance of Ferhadija Street, the Eternal Flame, Latin Bridge and Baščaršija, making it easy to combine a performance with sightseeing or dinner in central Sarajevo. From Sarajevo International Airport, allow approximately 20–30 minutes by car under normal traffic conditions.

Parking During Sarajevo Fest

Parking immediately around the National Theatre can be difficult, particularly before evening performances. If travelling with a rental car, arrive 30–45 minutes early and use an authorized public parking area or garage in central Sarajevo. Walking the final part of the journey is often easier than searching for a space directly beside the theatre. For performances at SARTR or other festival locations, check the venue before departure rather than assuming all events take place at the National Theatre.

What to Do Before a Performance

Sarajevo Fest’s central locations make the festival particularly convenient for tourists. Spend the afternoon exploring Baščaršija, Sebilj, Sarajevo City Hall, Latin Bridge and Ferhadija, stop for Bosnian coffee or dinner, and then continue to the theatre. Visitors staying for several days can use a rental car to explore Trebević Mountain, Vrelo Bosne, Bjelašnica and the Tunnel of Hope. For a full-day road trip from Sarajevo, popular destinations include Mostar, Blagaj, Travnik, Jajce and Višegrad. With seven days of international theatre, music and contemporary performing arts, Sarajevo Fest 2026 is worth adding to a late-summer visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Getting there by car

Free meet & greet at Sarajevo Airport, unlimited mileage on most categories, and CDW plus theft protection included as standard.
